My life can be surreal

So we are home like two hours from the hospital and the Darling Hub is sort of in and out on the couch full of vicodin (not the couch, the hub). Anyway, I go down to the basement to block my swallowtail shawl and I hear a knock on the front door. Of course I don't want the Chief to get up and answer it, so i run up the stairs and just as I get near the top, I hear the FRONT DOOR OPENING. WTF???!!!

It's my dad. The same dad who I told that he could come for one visit (two days) a month, has decided that I do not answer his voicemails or emails on a timely basis, so he will drive two and a half hours uninvited, nay UNANNOUNCED EVEN! and show up while I have a bleeding from the nose and in pain husband fresh home from the hospital.

I was so upset my vision actually went black for a split second. What's that about huh? I didn't get exactly angry because it was so surreal! I did tell him that I had the Chief fresh home from the hospital and he said "I didn't know that"

Well how the fuck could you know if you don't CALL before you show up?

So I had a twinge of guilt that he had to turn around and drive back home immediately, but how can I reward him showing up like that? If someone doesn't return your emailsor phone calls when YOU think they should, you cannot just show up at their home and force them to. BOUNDARIES PEOPLE!

I know I'm ranting but OMG. I might have big news in a week or two. As usual, I am hatching an evil plan, and I have just enlisted Cogs you should visit there and check outher new (and very popular) little crocheted sock bag. It is adorable and you can just hang it over your arm as you knit a sock just any old place!

Ways that I'm a big fat liar

Way 1: I had to start a sock today. Number five had swimming lessons and it's just too hot in there to put my woolen wicked on my lap. I did get the first sleeve nearly done yesterday though.

Way 2: I pulled out some merino that I blended with firestar (whilst seeing if I could make do with a pair of handcards instead of my frenzied pursuit of a drum carder. turns out I can indeed, but I digress) to show my mom and decided to try it out to see if it was too sparkly, not sparkly enough, whatever, and started to spin a laceweight single. Now I gotta finish those four ounces before I can proceed to the sherbet sock yarn. (I was just going to try it out and I couldn't stop) However I do expect to go ahead and get onto the sock yarn soon. I'm still spinning a lot lately so four ounces won't take long.

Way 3: I'm going to wind the laceweight for Swallowtail today, but I hardly think that counts as starting a project! (Yeah I know it's all a debate really)

Way 4: I still haven't started blocking the Scrote. Its just floating around in a big pink mass of Ramen noodles at this point, the horrid thing. You guys, I haven't even blocked The Wings of an Angel (or whatevs it's supposed to be called) that I finished ages ago. Have I mentioned that I hate blocking?

In other news, the owner of my son's Tae Kwon Do school has been arrested for soliciting murder. True I was looking for a new place because I didn't like him, but frankly I didn't suspect this!

My dad has responded by acting like he's 8. Not new and pretty much expected. Actually a little humorous if you can find humor in that sort of thing (oh and believe me I CAN)

My first colorwork project is chosen and I will be dyeing a bit of handspun for it maybe over the weekend. Best get back on the sleeves for Wicked :S.

Here's to you!

Ok so here's a little piece of information you probably don'tknow about me. When I spend my 45 minutes on the stepper, I like to watch a foreign film if I'm alone in the house. It's like the only time I can keep my eyes on the TV because I'm not knitting and I'm not sellin' books (eyes on the computer off and on).

So yesterday, I chose a Belgian horror film. Yeah you didn't know they had those? Yeah they do. I even recognized an actor from the french films I watch a lot of the time. I believe he was in Amelie which is one of my top five films ever. Anywho, I saw the best burning car scene I've ever scene. It was a shitload more real than American burning car scenes where the gas tank explodes the car fifty feet in the air. Also, there were people (remember it was a horror film) having sex with animals. Who knew that was a theme for backwoods people all over the world huh? Apparently it's like a real thing which is just kind of hard to believe for me personally.

HERE'S TO YOU BELGIAN FILMMAKERS! I had no idea you were any good. You made a truly gross and creepy movie when you made Calvaire (which incidentally means The Ordeal), but next time get someone just a tiny bit more fluent in English to translate. There was a lot of weird syntax there.

I've been knitting a bit too, but hopefully I'll have a few blocking photos for you soon. laterz!

Well far be it from me. . . .

to let inquiring minds go unsatisfied. My spinning post about Mystic Waters got a comment with a question.

Gammy aka Peggy said...
WOW, that spun silk is gorgeous. Are you going to ply it with something else or another spindle? How many ounces do you have? Enquiring minds you know.

Well, Peggy, you inquisitive and presumably lovely young lady, I'm glad you asked. The short answer is: I dunno yet. I am toying with the idea of plying with a red, silky shiny embroidery thread (because let's face it, in Bam's world you just can't be too shiny or sparkly), but haven't made up my mind yet. Also, thank you for the lovely compliment. I am half tempted to just leave it spun up on the bobbin forever because it really has a lovely sheen. I have 8 ounces dyed, but I have only spun about half right now. Unless I am gravely mistaken, I will need 650 m and I do believe I am there by now. Peggy, I suspect you will know what I'm talking about when I say that I just like to fondle the spun yarn on the bobbin. If you are the Peggy of knittingandspinningwithewe fame, hey how crazy is it that I left you a comment yesterday and you left me one too? Is life nuts or what? But I digress.

Now that begs a question from me. Do I just keep spinning and assume I will find something to do with the rest? (Ice Queen springs to mind although I have enough yarn in the stash for the whole friggin royal court in ice right now) or maybe figure I'll ply the rest and do something completely different with it? The silk has like zero stretch, so what will I do with the rest? Contest prize it off like I did with the red silk hanky I spun up and enclosed with a prize (you can see it here)

My goodness I'm indecisive today. Perhaps its the whole "third snow day off of school in two weeks" thing. Number five and I tried to go get chili dogs for lunch and my car was frozen shut. What the!? Poor guy had to settle for sloppy joes.
